About Me

Tropical Translations is a Fort Lauderdale, FL based company solely owned by
Silvia Gillespie

Silvia was born in Genova, Italy, where she learned to speak fluent Italian at home. At the age of three, Silvia left Italy and started traveling and studying throughout the world living in 8 different countries and attending British and American schools until graduation in Athens Greece in 1987. In 1988, Silvia moved to Caracas, Venezuela where she honed and mastered her Spanish speaking skills and worked for various companies in Caracas and Puerto La Cruz, at one time managing a car rental office catering to high end clients at resorts in the coastal beach town of Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela.

In 1995, Silvia moved to the United States and started working as a paralegal for companies and law firms in Miami and Fort Lauderdale, FL. During her tenure with the law firms, she assisted both partners and associates with various translation and interpretation projects. From this experience she gained an interest in starting her own freelance business, and has been providing stellar translations to clients for a number of years.

As owner of Tropical Translations, Silvia is keenly interested in providing the best quality of work possible to her clients and providers. She is a member in good standing of the American Translators Association (ATA), and the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Florida (ATIF), as well as a licensed Public Notary in the State of Florida and a member of the National Notary Association (NNA). She is an avid user of both Apple and Microsoft products and uses various programs to ensure perfect formatting and spelling.

Silvia enjoys traveling to new locales every year on her time off, as well as learning about new cultures. She is in the process of learning Portuguese.
